Montreal's Public Transportation System
Montreal has a very good public transportation system. The STM (Societe des Transports de Montreal) is in charge of Montreals Metro as well as its bus network. The STM network covers the entire island of Montreal. A night schedule is also available for many of the buses on the STM network. The STM website has schedules for all of the buses on its network and many bus schedules are posted at bus stops throughout the city.
Montreal's City Buses
Buses operate all around the downtown, and outer areas of Montreal. Most bus routes operate between 6 a.m. to midnight. There are also several rush-hour only bus routes as well as night buses. Please note that the night service buses tend to come very infrequently and offer only a limited amount of routes.
Taxis in Montreal
You will find various taxi stands all over the downtown core of Montreal. You can also find taxis cruising the streets of Montreal. Unlike other major cities, Montreal's taxis do not have a uniform color. Instead, you must look for an illuminated roof light to indicate an available taxi. As soon as you enter a taxi there is an initial charge of C$2.75 and C$1.30 for every additional kilometer. Montreal's three major taxi companies are:

Montreal's Métro Subway System
Montreal's subway system is called the Métro. You can always tell when you are near a metro station by looking for the Metro symbol (The Metro symbol is an upside down arrow inside a circle). The Metro trains operate from 5:30am in the morning until midnight on most days. The Metro system consists of four lines, each with their own color code.
