Montreal’s Outremont neighbourhood is located just north of downtown and on the northern part of Mount Royal. The English translation of Outremont is Beyond the Mountain. Outremont is a quiet and peaceful neighbourhood that contains many parks and offers a great outdoor lifestyle. You’ll find various foot trails, parks and natural woodlands in this neighbourhood.
Outremont’s Wealthy Residents
Outremont is where Montreal’s wealthy French residents live. Similar to Westmount, Outremont is the home of wealthy doctors, lawyers and politicians.

Outremont is much more residential than many of the other Montreal neighborhoods. You will find many beautiful and impressive old homes each with their own distinct architecture. Avenue Bernard is the other main shopping street in Outremont. This street features lively restaurants and boutiques. The restaurants on this street tend to be chic, with fantastic food and sleek decor.
Attractions in Outremont
The main attraction in Outremont is the Mount Royal Cemetery that sits at the bottom of Mount Royal, along with a section of the Université de Montréal campus. Outremont has very large French-speaking population along with a significant Hassidic Jewish population.
