Montreal's Sherbrooke Street

Montreal’s Sherbrooke Steet (rue Sherbrooke) is the second longest street in Montreal. Sherbrooke is divided into Sherbrooke East, located in Eastern Montreal and Sherbrooke West, located in Western Montreal. The street dividing both sides of Sherbrooke is Saint Laurent Boulevard. Although it is not as flashy as Crescent Street and not as popular as Saint Catherine Street, Sherbrooke Street is still one of the most recognizable streets in Montreal. The street is much more of a cultural street with many museums and galleries located near or around it. Many of Montreal's neighbourhoods, including Westmount, The Plateau and Downtown.

Sherbrooke Street has many historic buildings and mansions. The architecture of the buildings on sherbrooke Street varies depending on what part of Sherbrooke Street that you are on. It can range from Neo-classical to Victorian to Neo-Gothic.

Museum District (Quartier du Musée)

Montreal’s Museum District (Quartier du Musée) is located on Sherbrooke Street West between Crescent Street and rue de la Montagne,. This section of Sherbrooke street is famous for its museums, upscale jewellers, high-end stores, and restaurants. The Museum District is part of the Golden Square Mile, an historic district in downtown Montreal that housed some of Canada’s richest families.

Attractions on Sherbrooke Street

Many of Monteal’s popular attractions are located on Sherbrooke street. These attractions include the Olympic Stadium, the Botanical Garden, the Montreal Biodome, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Lafontaine Park, McCord Museum and the Ritz-Carlton Montreal.

Educational Institutions on Sherbrooke Street

Many of Montreal’s University campuses are located on Sherbrooke Street. McGill University’s main campus, Concordia University’s Loyola campus and Université du Québec à Montréal’s (UQAM) Complexe des sciences are all located on Sherbrooke Street. Several colleges are also located on Sherbrooke as well. Some of these include Dawson College, Collège de Montréal, and Collège de Maisonneuve.
